The Day I Stopped Comparing My Life to Others
A simple story about self-love, patience, and learning to live life at your own pace.

Every student has days when they feel that everyone else is doing better than them and has achieved a lot in their life.
I have seen students who score good marks, get internships, learn new skills, and still find time to enjoy their lives, to be honest even I belong to this category. Sometimes, looking at them makes us to question our own progress and achievements. We start thinking if we are too slow or that we are not doing enough or maybe sometimes we question our own capabilities.
It is easy to forget that everyone has a different journey and a different goal.
I remember a time when I felt that I was falling behind seeing my batchmates doing better than me. I had many things to do, but I was not sure where to start and how to start. I would make plans in my head, feel motivated for a while, and then get worried about how much work was still left. The more I thought about other people, the less confident I felt about myself.
One evening, after a tiring day, I decided to take a short walk outside and I sat alone in a park.
The sky was turning orange, and the trees were moving gently in the wind. A little girl was trying to ride her bicycle while her father walked beside her, a moment that for a once made me remeber my childhood. She fell once, laughed, and tried again. Her father did not tell her how quickly other children had learned to ride. He simply encouraged her to keep trying and the girl felt confident because she knew that she was learning something new.
For some reason, that small moment stayed with me.
The girl was not worried about being the best cyclist in the park. She was just happy to learn something new. She was focused on her own very little progress.
I wondered when we stopped living like that and stopped learning.
As we grow older, we begin comparing our marks, achievements, salaries, and opportunities. We often measure our happiness by looking at what someone else has achieved. We forget that we do not know the struggles behind another person's success.
That evening, I decided to make one small change. Instead of asking myself, "Why am I not doing as well as others?" I started asking, "What can I do a little better today?", "What can i learn today?".
Some days, the answer was studying for an extra hour. On other days, it was completing a small task I had been avoiding. And sometimes, it was simply allowing myself to rest without feeling guilty.
Nothing changed overnight. I still had difficult days, and I still compared myself to others sometimes. But slowly, I began to understand that progress does not always look impressive. Sometimes, it is just getting out of bed when you feel tired, trying again after failing, or learning something that nobody else notices.
We spend so much time worrying about reaching our destination that we forget to appreciate the person we are becoming along the way.
Maybe life is not a race in which everyone has to reach the finish line at the same time. Maybe it is more like a journey where each person has a different road, a different pace, and a different reason to keep moving.
So, if you ever feel that you are falling behind, take a breath. Look at how far you have come, even if the distance seems small.
You do not have to have everything figured out today.
You just have to keep going, one small step at a time.
